THE HART FAMILY // AN EXTENDED FAMILY PHOTO SESSION // INTERLOCHEN, MI
This is a story of community:
Going to middle school in Ann Arbor, I rode the same bus to school with James. I knew the Hart family more through a mutual friend’s family than I did personally, but they grew up within walking distance of my house. As an adult I remember seeing James and his brother Greg running in Traverse City once I had moved up here (hard to miss them with their hair flowing out behind them!). I found out that Greg ran a growing catering business and food truck, Cordwood BBQ, so Michael and I had them cater our wedding (it was amazing!). Then I photographed Anna’s older sister’s wedding. Then Anna’s wedding to James. Then her younger sister’s wedding. Then Anna became my optometrist. I see James often out on the ski trails (he’s the head groomer for the VASA trails in the winter). Basically I love this family and all of the wild connections I have created with them and their extended family and friends through the years.
So when the Hart side of the family was all together this year we would take photos. Then I got COVID. I texted my community of Traverse City photography friends and Dan Stewart came to the rescue, letting me know that his associate, Jules Brown was available. Jules did a fantastic job stepping in for me. All of the photos below are hers. I am beyond bummed that I missed the opportunity to see this group and photograph them. But I am forever grateful that I have developed relationships with people who care enough to help. Despite the disappointments and challenges, I feel hopeful when things like this happen. When I see the goodness in others and the power of human connection.
Huge thank you to everyone involved. All of the Harts and the amazing professionals who care.
