I have always loved photographing kids, but I’m feeling something that seems distinctly different this year. I can only really describe it like a calling. I feel very deeply like this is what I was meant to do. I have always felt like there are a million directions that my life could take… if I made a different decision here, or there, that there have been many things that I could have been great at if the timing and situations had been right for me to pursue them. But right now, in this place, at this time in my life, something is really “clicking”. I keep leaving sessions feeling like “this feels right”. What I am doing is deeply important. Maybe that won’t always be immediately recognized by either myself or my clients - after all, it’s just a simple photo session - but years and years from now when these boys are older I hope they are grateful that their parents googled Northern Michigan photographers and had me come out to their vacation rental for a small snippet of their trip. So that they see reflected back at them their childhood selves: their big feelings, their little bodies, their goofy faces, their pouty ones too, and their connection to each other.
