Wedding Photography Guide

I deeply value marriage. As you are about to embark on this next chapter of your life, first, I just genuinely want to thank you for being here. Simply being considered to act as the documentarian for such an important day is truly an honor!
With gratitude, Courtney

A few of my favorite things: unfiltered emotion, timeless portraits, the natural beauty of the outdoors, vivid true-to-life color, sweet details, quirky guests, the little things, creative light, a great dance party

Here’s what it looks like to work together!

Initial Conversation

Prior to booking, I love to set up a call or video chat! If you are able to meet in person over a beverage of some kind, or for a hike, even better! It is very important to me that we connect. When you are comfortable with your photographer the best work will happen!

Booking

After our initial conversation, I send you a detailed email with package details, and any full galleries that might be helpful for you to check out. Take your time reviewing everything! If you are ready to move forward, your contract signature and deposit payment (one third of your package price) are required to secure your date.

Preliminary planning

After wrapping up booking details, we begin the planning process with a Google document covering the details and timing of your day. We consult with you on the schedule of your day - how do you want to spend your time on your wedding day? It is very important to us that you experience your wedding day instead of chasing a shot list. We want our plan for photography -including the more formal group portraits - to compliment your day rather than compete with it. If you have a wedding planner or coordinator, we will absolutely connect with them as well.

Full day coverage

11 is my favorite number. It was my soccer number and my son was born on 11-11-2020 (!!) You guessed it, I typically spend 11 hours at each wedding I document. After all the planning and anticipation, this day happens once. I believe in documenting the full experience, and for me that’s very hard to do without full day coverage. It’s how I do my best work.

Two photographers

Wedding coverage with two photographers allows us more flexibility. If you are getting ready in separate locations, having two people is really helpful. This is just one obvious example, but there are many points during the day when having two photographers ensures you receive comprehensive coverage of your wedding.

Preview

One of my very favorite things in the world is giving my clients a sneak peek of images shortly after the wedding! The week after the wedding, we post a curated set of images on our blog and link to our social media accounts. If you would prefer a private preview, please let me know.

Post production

After your wedding we go through all of the images. We take many photos in rapid succession and pull out any shots with closed eyes or awkward positioning. We do our best to create a comprehensive view of your day. Again, each wedding is unique, but you can expect between 800-1000 images. The selected images will all undergo exposure adjustment, color correction and other basic editing. A selected set of images are converted to black and white. These will be delivered as copies, so you will have the color versions too.

image collection

When your images are finished, we will upload them to a password protected online viewing gallery. Downloading the high resolution images will be available. A print release will also be included. Your family and friends are welcome to viewing access. While we appreciate any prints or products ordered through the online gallery, there are no print requirements with us.

Print consultation

We truly hope that your images find homes outside of the digital realm! We love prints, frames, and album options! Your online gallery will have print and product options included, but if you would like any additional services do not hesitate to ask. I don’t want you to feel like you are roped into any pushy sales calls, but I want you to know that I am available to assist you as needed.

We knew our photographer was going to be a big part of our wedding day, but wow, did Courtney go above and beyond. She not only captured our day perfectly, but she doubled as a semi-wedding planner in the months leading up to the day and played a huge role in making sure the day ran smoothly. She is communicative, organized, and professional. Her photos are colorful, creative, and make you feel like you're back in the moment it was taken; She captured raw, candid moments we will cherish forever. Above all, Courtney is just a wonderful person. She is energetic and makes even the most camera shy feel at ease. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a photographer in the area.

For any location in the state of Michigan more than 100 miles from Traverse City, I require this travel stipend. Mackinac Island weddings also require 2 round trip ferry tickets.

Engagement

Engagement sessions are a great way for me to get to know you - and for you to work with me before your big day. I love to use these sessions as an opportunity to explore with you. Let’s go on a hike or grab a coffee or a cocktail!

Need location options? Let’s chat!

I am frequently asked…

  • First, we would recommend taking some time looking through the work on our website and Instagram. Make sure you like what you see there! We think that a good gut-reaction is important! Our goal is to blend a photojournalistic approach with good solid portraiture. If you have other questions about our shooting style and our approach to documenting weddings, please get in touch to set up a phone call or video chat!

  • If you are interested in booking, we will draft a contract for you to review. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask. Then we ask for your signatures along with a deposit. Check payment is requested. Typically we set the deposit at one third of the total package price.

  • After a decade of photographing weddings, I genuinely believe my best work happens on a wedding day with a full day of coverage. I will make exceptions for very small weddings or elopements, but only if they take place on a Monday - Thursday. If you have any additional questions about this, or would like to know if I would consider package customization for your event, email me directly!
